A MOMENT ON THE SAND - A BEACH WEDDING
Crosby Beach, Merseyside
CONCEPT:
Modern, romantic and coastal wedding with colours of greys, and creams, and accents of sand and a soft, country air blue.
THE STATIONERY
My mum grew up in Crosby and Formby, so this shoot felt lovely and personal. Through her, I’ve always felt a connection to the sea, and Crosby beach is a beautiful, vast landscape of sand stretching out far and wide, and drawing you towards the distant water.
Taking inspiration from the long beach that stretches far away to the sea, and the water as it draws in over the textures and notches in the sand, I used layers of contrasting papers, overlapping each other, with their frayed edges visible and tantalising. Each element, the invitation, details, and RSVP, is slightly wider than the one on top, so that all the papers can be seen.
I used a modern, paired back font for the name, contrasting with the textures of the papers, and gave space to the copy, to complement the simplicity and vastness of the location. To accompany the invitation collection, I hand painted a watercolour keepsake card. As soon as I heard the shoot would be on Crosby beach, I wanted to paint it, to capture the colours in the sand and the water.
Overlaying the invitations, I chose meaningful words to place onto the soft blue cardstock and hand stitched these into the paper, playing with layering, nautical knots, and bringing in the idea of tieing, binding and togetherness.
THE MENUS
For the menus I repeated the same beautiful, soft blue papers and hand stitched element from the invitations, using white for the name card to invert the paper colours. Sewing the name card onto the menu also meant nothing would get blown away in the wind. The square menus paired beautifully with the stoneware and the decorative air plants.
